Once again, my mom and I traveled to Las Vegas to see Mr. George Strait. He came this year with LeeAnn Womack and Reba McIntyre...so you know it was going to be a great show.

Now, for those of you who have not been to see the King of Country, you are truly missing out on a great entertainer. Don't expect a lot of theatrics. No pyrotechnics or big video screen productions. You get, at most, some strobe lights and little video clips during some of his songs. Don't expect Mr. Strait to talk too much, besides saying "Thank you" to his more than adoring audience, introducing the Ace In The Hole Band and letting you know that he'll be playing some old songs and some new things. Do expect, however, Mr. Strait to sing. He doesn't sit down and he doesn't stop singing for about 2 hours. He sets up his stage so that there is a mic at each corner. He then sings two songs at each mic, traveling around the stage. Each time he moves to the next mic, whether it be the first time at that mic or the 5th, the crowd he is facing erupts. Each time a new song starts, whether it be a classic or a new one, the crowd erupts. They are just so excited to hear
that song. He can't do a thing wrong.
From the moment he swaggers onto the stage...and I do mean swaggers...he has such a presence about him. He bows to each direction and after a few songs, points to each crowd as if say "thank you for singing along. You are all wonderful." The crowd itself is not just the cowboy hats and boots you might think. There are all types of people. Of course, you do see a lot of cowboy hats and boots and wranglers. You have people who have come straight from a day of work on the farm. You have the young girls in too short skirts, too tiny tank tops, fashion cowboy boots and imitation cowboy hats. You have people like me, who wish they were more country than they actually are, but the most country thing about them is that they love the music and occasionally watch the PBR. You have young people, old people, and all kinds in between. All come to see the King, and in this case the Queen (Reba) of Country. And neither one disappoints.
We got into the concert late and I only got hear LeeAnn Womack sing two songs...luckily they were my two favorites: "I Hope You Dance" and "Ashes By Now". Reba came on next and she was amazing.

That woman can sing. She sang all of my favorites and I sang along the whole time. At one point, she began to speak about her TV show "Reba" and said she only had one problem with doing the show. Then you hear someone yell "REEEEBBBAAA" and here comes Barbara Jean (Melissa Peterman) running onstage wearing a George Strait tshirt and guzzling a Budweiser. It was hilarious. (If you've never watched the show...that won't be that funny to you.) At the end of her set, she left the stage and I was very disappointed because she hadn't sung "Fancy". No worries, the music video started playing and then here she comes again, this time in a taxi cab, in a red dress and sings "Fancy". It was awesome.
George, of course, sang every song he could fit into 2 hours. I mean, with the amount of songs he has in his repertoire, I don't know how he decides what to sing. The highlights for me were "Troubadour", "Wrapped", "Run", "Amarillo By Morning", "Ocean Front Property", "I Saw God Today", "River Of Love", "Livin For the Night", "Twang"...oh who am I kidding! They were all highlights! He is such a great entertainer. And he doesn't need to do anything but stand on the stage with his guitar and sing. And that is just what he does. I can't wait to see him again...
